iBackground Scripts is a free and easy to use AppleScript that will make other AppleScripts to run in the background, provided that the script is saved as an `application bundle`.
Simply place the script on your Desktop and change the name of it to `back.app`. Then launch iBackground Scripts and click the `Yes` button. You can reverse it by clicking the `No` button and it will no longer be a background script.
Tiger users may have to copy the script to another location to see the change. Although, renaming it usually does the trick.
